Our Story

OpticLine began as a class project, but quickly turned into something greater.

We created OpticLine during our Stanford undergraduate Bioengineering capstone project course. We were assigned to come up with any innovation for dialysis patients. After speaking to our clinical mentors, we realized that peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients faced the possibility of an infection, known as peritonitis, each time they set up their PD session. As a result of peritonitis, PD patients are at risk of complications and hospitalization. If the infection is not treated quickly, peritoneal scarring can occur, causing PD patients to have to switch to hemodialysis (HD).

After we completed the course, we were still passionate about OpticLine and what we could do to help PD patients. We have performed thorough R&D, testing multiple variables to ensure the device functions properly and talking with multiple stakeholders to understand how OpticLine can best serve PD patients. As a team of young entrepreneurs, we would love to see OpticLine helping those we care about most: PD patients. We are aiming to partner with a company to make this dream a reality.
